CITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK

NEW BRUNSWICK FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY
RENOVATIONS

COMPLETION DATE: TBD
CONSTRUCTION VALUE: $331K

Settembrino Architects was tasked to provide both interior and exterior renovations to the City of New Brunswick Public Library. The New Brunswick Free Public Library is approximately 115 years old, with a 30 year old addition, is registered with SHPO under the Livingston Avenue Historic District.

The existing EPDM roof membrane and insulation down to the wood deck at the upper roof area which extends to the lower roof connecting to the original building roof and the elevator shaft will be removed and replaced with a new built up roof membrane. New Brunswick Free Public Library requested to replace the existing main entrance handrail with historically accurate new cast aluminum handrails. The mezzanine is part of the original building and has damaged and broken glass floor panels. Settembrino is replacing the old damaged panels with new laminated glass panels to match the existing floor. The laminated glass panels hold up to impact better than other types of glass adding more safety to the old building. In addition to renovations to the roof, floor and handrails, new floor and wall outlets will be installed in the young adult area on the main floor.
